Parent's voice

I‘m the mother of Daniel, who is from the Australian program S3C4. It’s a great honor to have the opportunity to be the parent representative today. Please allow me to represent all the parents of senior 3 Australian program to extend warm congratulations to the students who have successfully completed their high school studies and are about to start a new journey, and express my heartfelt thanks to the teachers who have devoted a lot of effort to the growth of their children!

Frankly, I am nervous here as a representative of parents as I didn’t require a lot during my child’s education, and I don’t have any meaningful experience to share. Let's just talk about some feelings that I got in the process of children's growth.

First of all, I would be grateful to Entel for its campus environment which is the combination of leniency and strictness.

At the beginning of junior high school, we visited several private junior middle schools. Most of the others had really good hardware environment, but those schools paid more attention to the general consequence of the middle school entrance examination, which always feels a sense of depression for the students. However, when we went in to the campus of Entel, every student we met was generous, and their face were full optimism and self-confidence. It could be said that we chose Entel to be our ideal school at the first sight we saw it. At the same time, Daniel was also very lucky, he passed two exams and entered Entel without mathematics scores and award-winning certificates.

The six years in Entel could be divided into two stages, with the third year to be the boundary. He didn’t use to live on campus at the beginning of junior high school as he only lived on campus one day a week. When he became a junior 2 student, he lived on campus two days a week. Nevertheless, in senior high school, he completely adapted to live on campus and even refused to go home for several weeks to prepare for serious exams. His junior high school life is just similar to primary school, he didn’t study hard and his grade was just normal among all students. At the same time, he did not control the time for after class activities as his class teacher asked us to pack up his badminton rackets.

In comparison, he became self-disciplined in senior high school, keep doing exercise and playing sports every day but with self-control, and his personality turned into confident and cheerful. This transformation is inseparable from the edification of Entel culture and the teaching of teachers which have correctly guided Daniel’s ideological trends, personality and behavior. Because of Entel, Daniel has studied passionately for three years and has had a happy middle school life for six years.

The second is the harmonious and relaxed family environment. The focus of most families today is on the achievements of children, but for us, we pay attention to it but not overly concern about it. When Daniel comes home after a week's study in school, we want him to relax, play sports together, chat about some relaxed topics. As for study, we let him say what he is willing to say but never force him to say if he is unwilling to do so. Also, we would offer some suggestions to things that are important in our mind. When his academic performance was not decent in junior middle school, we barely expressed anxiety while encouraging him most of the time. In my opinion, the function of the family is to help children release their pressure and adjust their mindset.

The third is to stimulate children's learning drive. I always think that learning is the child's own business. Only when he realizes that he should study hard, he will have the motivation to focus on studying. I have always adopted a more "relaxed" attitude towards his study, and never asked him to compete for the top of the class. At the same time, I often said to him, "the purpose of learning is not to score, but to understand knowledge. The results only judge your learning at this stage. The key is to apply what you learn, not high scores and low abilities."

In junior high school, Daniel rarely took the initiative to say about his grades for examinations. I can only judge his level from the average and median scores given by the school. I felt that there was still a gap between his rank and the required ranking for Hangzhou Foreign Language School. At that time, I was anxious and asked him if he needed to carry out targeted extracurricular tutoring, but he didn't realize the gap in between and refused to have extra classes, and we didn't force him. After the mid-term examination of junior three, he realized the gap and was proactive to ask for supplementary courses in science. But for English which was his weak subject, he decided to catch up by himself.

That period of about one and a half month was the most diligent learning state of him since he was in junior high school. At that time, his communication with us became active and frequent, but in the end, English delayed him and he failed to surpass the grade required for Hangzhou Foreign Language School. I remember the day which score came out, he called and cried very sad. I was very worried because of this, hurried home immediately to comfort him: "it doesn't matter. It's just a small step in your life. Good grades occur because of the time you spend every day and cannot be replaced by a short-term hard work. As long as you work hard, the Australian program is also a good choice, and you will not be far behind those who are in Hangzhou Foreign Language School." He gradually calmed down and said he would study hard next.

Because he didn’t like memorizing words and was trying to cut corners in English homework, there were a lot of problems in his English knowledge frame, and his confidence in learning is not very sufficient. On the one hand, I told him that English is the foundation of the Australian program, otherwise it will affect the study of other subjects. On the other hand, English teachers have been encouraging him since he joined this program, which has re-stimulated his confidence in learning English. As his attitude towards English changed, from rejecting memorizing words to actively memorizing words, his vocabulary has increased, and his performance for English class has been improved quickly. Since then, English learning has embarked on a virtuous circle. The results of other subjects have also been improved due to the change of learning attitude.

The fourth is to believe in children, respect and support their wishes. Everyone is eager to be respected by others, and so are children. We have never reported extra-curricular classes to our children without his permission. all extra-curricular classes are selected by him, and subject guidance books are also selected by him. I was only responsible for financial support. In high school, he had stronger self-consciousness. He joined several school activities and off campus competitions independently and I was only told when I needed to pick up or pay for the school's services. Also, some of the prize information was learned by the school's official account.

In senior three, the child hoped to receive more professional badminton training. As soon as I heard it, I was a little worried. The third year of senior high school was a critical moment, and time was precious. Although he repeatedly promised not to affect his study, the intensive training on weekends would lead to physical fatigue and reduced learning efficiency. Finally, through consultation with him and the coach, we reasonably arranged the training courses so that he could not only ensure the learning time, but also receive professional training.

Middle school is only a stage of life. There are still many shortcomings in Daniel, which needs him to continuously learn and improve. The above are some superficial understandings of children's education. If there is anything that you hold a different perspective, please criticize and correct them.

Finally, I wish all teachers and parents good health, success in work, and family happiness! I wish all the students of Australian program a bright future! And I wish Entel a better tomorrow!
